We are dealing with the virus and then Wednesday, an earthquake. Our main concern now is making sure our students get food and technology to continue their learning. Daily our district runs out of to go food. We have limited computers for the kids to check out. Thankfully, we just finished week one.

If you need resources, there are so many online now that it is shocking. Check out the Amazing Educational Resources group on Facebook.

Months ago, we had planned to have an auction on Friday, March 20th.  With the changing times, we obviously have cancelled it.  Amongst our donations, we had received a combined total of a 150 brand new books.  (The books we received were from Scholastic, Follett, and Half Price Books.). Learning that libraries are closed and school on a temporary hold, I placed the books in bin and placed them on my front porch.  We then posted a memo on two of our different FACEBOOK pages.  The response was overwhelming.  After 4 days of the books being outside, we are down to less than 10 books.  This couldn’t of made us more proud.  It warms all of hearts to know that we are still connected during these trying times.

Our first concern has been making sure that our food insecure population gets the food they need. Next we are trying to help our families gain access to resources for their students. But more behind the scenes? How are we going to vote in a new budget? How are we going to vote in a new board? How are we going to move forward financially without all of our fundraising for the rest of the year? There is just so much unknown. We all just have to be flexible and roll with the punches!

Are there ways to do virtual meetings through member hub? For voting purposes, budgets, meetings, etc? Or other resources people are using to continue support for their school and members? We had several events planned in the coming months, of course now cancelled, and trying to see how we can best support our students with food, educational resources, and funds/resources for our hourly employees (para’s, custodian staff, aides, bus drivers, etc).

Katie Kerns - Thanks for the great question! At this time, MemberHub does not have a way to offer virtual meetings through the platform. There are, however, several great resources that provide free or low-cost video conferencing. Here is an article that lists 10 options. https://www.owllabs.com/blog/video-conferencing-tools .

Molly Edwards- These are great questions and very important concerns! It is certainly a challenging time for many units with PTA elections/voting scheduled.

Katie Mueller - Thanks for sharing your story about how your unit utilized resources from a canceled event to bring together your community. This is simply awesome and we love hearing these stories!

Bonneville Elementary PTA - Thanks for sharing your tips about the Facebook group and how your unit is utilizing digital resources while battling COVID-19 and more.

We would love to continue to hear about resources your units have found digital, how/if you are hosting online meetings, how your unit is effected with pending votes and elections and coming together as a community among any other tips your unit may have to share related to COVID-19.

We had to cancel our Spring Fundraiser and our 3rd General Meeting for the year.  We are not sure what this means with our bylaws stating we are required to have 4 general meetings per school year.  We discussed a 3rd general meeting being done virtually but I am thinking we may just send a newsletter to our members through MH with homeschool resources as well as updates concerning our PTA and what is going on in our community.

We are hoping to return to school April 6 but that is still pending.  If we do return soon, we plan to do our final meeting at the end of April.  It was just going to be a meeting and encourage attendance by offering an ice cream party to the grade/class that gets the most parents to attend.  Now, we are considering something to encourage our members attendance.  We always have to do something where kids perform to get parents involved.  In years past, this meeting has been a talent show and then a fashion show.  Our board is just tired of the fashion show and the parent/student body weren't so interested in the fashion show either.  Now with all of these cancellations, we feel like we need something to increase morale and encourage our community.

I like hearing what other schools are doing.  Our district has really went above and beyond helping our lower income families.  They have been giving out over 200 breakfasts and lunches each day for free as well as providing internet for very low price if not free.  Our local libraries closed and that hurt a lot of families that relied on the library for their internet and printing abilities.

Praying we all stay safe and healthy and we jump back from this soon. Have a great day, everyone!
